Biography
Known for her cross over work in both classical and music theatre, Ruth Peart has studied voice for fifteen years. Ruth is an Ohio based soprano from London, Ohio.
Ruth holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Ohio State University in Vocal Performance, where she was awarded the Margaret Speaks Vocal Scholarship. She holds a Master of Music degree from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music in Vocal Performance, where she was awarded the Artistic excellence award, and studied under the tutelage of Professor Kimberly Gill. Additionally, Ruth holds a Vocology Certificate from Indiana University
With her Vocology Certificate, Ruth strives to teach students in a welcoming environment. She is focused on the functionality of the voice and is committed to teaching each student healthy vocal technique as well as artistry. As a teacher, Ruth is committed to the each student as an individual as well as an artist and is dedicated to fostering a safe and fun environment for vocal health, technique, and performance abilities for her students.
Ruth is an active performer on stage and in choral settings. She has performed with the Columbus Children's Choir, New World Singers touring Spain, Austria, and Hungary. While studying at Indiana, Ruth performed with various university choral organizations as well as the Bloomington First United Methodist Church choir. Ruth currently serves as a schola member in the Saint Joseph Cathedral Choir under the direction of Dr. Richard K. Fitzgerald.
As an avid lover of both opera and music theatre, Ruth has performed in many shows of both genres. Previous operatic roles include Elizabeth Brigmann (Sweets by Kate) , Moth Fairy (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) , Prisoner’s Chorus in Anne Frank (Ran), Chorus in Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovsky), and Edith (Pirates of Penzance). Ruth has also served in supernumerary roles in Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera.
Her musical theatre credits include Sophie Sheridan (Mamma Mia), Julia Sullivan (The Wedding Singer), Baker’s Wife (Into the Woods), Dragon (Shrek the Musical), and Woman 1 (Songs for a New World). Notably, Ruth won third place in the Women in Music in Columbus Memorial Scholarship Competition for advanced musical study, was a recipient of the Margaret Speaks Vocal Scholarship from Ohio State, and the artistic excellence scholarship from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.
